Read what one of our clients has to say. Thankyou B.J. for this blog article! :

Good morning Mike & Music In Motion staff,

Now that the dust has started to settle from our wedding reception at Cascade in Hamen Connecticut, I wanted to send you a quick email to say thanks again for a job well done at our wedding. You made our big day that much better. I’ve seen plenty of crappy DJs ruin a wedding and this was not the case with you. I can’t tell you how many people said you did a terrific job. So thank you very much for sharing in our special day.

I have a friend who is getting married next July (I am in that wedding) and I told him if he doesn’t go with you guys at Music In Motion, I punching him right in the mouth haha.

Also, wanted to let you know that I wrote you a review on WeddingWire. 5′s across the board!

I can’t express my pleasure enough, thank you again and I will continue to recommend you and MIM to anyone who is looking for a top quality DJ.

B.J.

Here’s what B.J. wrote on Weddingwire.com

“I have been to my fair share of weddings where the DJ was absolutely atrocious and you think to yourself, “I hope they didn’t overpay for this shmuck”.

Trust me, you will not feel this way if you go with Music In Motion Entertainment. Their online planning tool is extremely easy and convenient; it’s also very expansive. Just for the hell of it, I typed in obscure songs and the system spit the song out every time. Dave was very quick to respond to any inquiries we had and made the whole process painless.

Everyone has heard the horror stories of how the DJ made the reception all about himself with ridiculous antics (I could tell you a story of a DJ that talked through the bride and groom’s first dance but I’ll spare you), Dave was not that way at all. His level of involvement and interaction was perfect.

I can honestly say that there wasn’t a moment in the night that the dance floor wasn’t packed (OK maybe at dinner time but that’s expected). It was a great mix of music and everyone, young and old were on their feet.

Thanks again Dave! You made our big day that much better!”
B.J. & Randi

Ever since Music In Motion entered the Photo Booth business, we have paid close attention to the ” other ” photo booth companies out there. One of the things I see a lot is 3 -4 hours of service, even though a wedding is 5 hours.

This past weekend, we provided DJ and lighting for a wedding reception that hired an out of state photo booth company. After speaking with the representative from the company, I realized that my client paid about $ 500 more than Music In Motion would have charged them for their booth. That was not the key issue. During dinner time, the photo booth attendant hung a sign on the booth that said, ” closed for 1 hour. ”

The 1 hour period just so happened to be dinner time when most of the wedding guests were going up to the bar and could have taken their photos. Rather than working, the photo booth attendant sat down to eat a full 4 course dinner, ( complete with drinks of the alcoholic kind. ) After dinner, the booth was opened up, but then so was the dance floor. Guests were now torn between dancing and taking their photos.

With Music In Motion Entertainment, our photo booth package includes a full 5 hours of uninterrupted service to the wedding guests. Having the extra 1 hour gives every guest the opportunity to get a photo strip and not have to stand in a long line after dinner, when they should be dancing.

If you are thinking of a photo booth for your wedding, Bar/Batmitzvah, or corporate event, you will find many options for providers. Just make sure you get 5 hours of service if you have a 5 hour event. Would you hire a DJ for a 5 hour reception who provides only 4 hours of service? Think about what you are paying for and what you are getting……. or NOT getting.

In April, a wedding ceremony and reception that we did at The Aqua Turf Club in Southington was one of those standouts. The theme was “Forever in Blue Jeans”, named after the hit by Neil Diamond. All the guests, including us, were invited to attend in blue jeans! My normal attire is full tuxedo but I got to wear my jeans, which was a first for me in 25 years as a wedding DJ. The wedding cake, homemade by a family member, was sculpted and iced into a set of blue jeans. Architectural lighting adorned all the columns of the Wagon Room with, you guessed it, the color blue. The casual atmosphere allowed everyone to “let their hair down” and just have a blast. It was a non-stop dance party, reminiscent of my work in the nightclubs, spinning marathon dance sets that never seemed to end. LED multi-colored lighting kept a steady flow of pulsating colors to create energy and excitement on the dance floor. The photo booth was “buzzing” with most guests taking strips of snapshots, arcade style. But my opinion of this event really doesn’t matter as much as the opinion of our delighted clients. Here is what the bride wrote recently on weddingwire.com:

“Music in Motion Entertainment and, in particular, Dave Salonia, did a great job at our wedding. We engaged Music in Motion Entertainment because two of their DJs performed at a co-worker’s wedding and they did such a fantastic job in getting everyone out on the dance floor. Dave did an even better job at our wedding. He spent a lot of time with us to make sure that he understood what we wanted for the ceremony music, which was very non-traditional and somewhat eclectic, and he made some very helpful suggestions. He also made sure that he knew what our music tastes were and what the age distribution of our guests would be so that he would play music during the reception that people could not help but dance to. He did such an incredible job that people literally danced from 8 pm to midnight. The place was rocking! He also did a great job in personalizing the introductions of people close to us, the “newlyweds”, and some other special recognitions we asked him to make. We had the best time at our wedding and came home to three “thank you” notes from guests telling us that it was the best wedding they ever attended. Music in Motion Entertainment and Dave Salonia deserve a lot of the credit. We also rented a photo booth for the reception and everyone had a blast taking their “strip” of pictures. It also provided us with a nice keepsake since the guests could keep one strip of pictures for themselves and glue the second strip into a photo album and write a message to us. I highly recommend Music in Motion Entertainment to anyone who is considering a DJ for their wedding — you’ll end up with an invaluable partner in planning your special day.”

–Wendi

In this country alone, over 5 million dogs are put down each year. Perfect, wonderful animals that would have made a great pet and member of the family. It is a shame and this does not have to happen! One of the greatest things anyone can do is open their home to a pound puppy or adopt from a rescue. Then Spay & Neuter so we don’t have over population problems!

There is a rescue for just about every breed of dog. In many cases, a dog that would go for $800-$1200 in a pet store could be obtained for between $200-$300 with a rescue. Also, many rescues have a network of volunteers who will organize a transport to deliver your new dog right to the front door.

Music In Motion’s Mike & Sheri Fernino volunteer and support the Dalmatian rescue of Second Chances Dalmatian Rescue. www.gotspots.org

What ever breed you prefer, go rescue an animal this year! It will be one of the most rewarding acts you ever do.

At Music In Motion Entertainment, I know that we can’t be the perfect price for every bride and groom planning a wedding celebration. For our company, we are not looking to be cheap. Rather, we are looking to provide an event of a lifetime for our clients. Unfortunately, sometimes for the bride and groom to be, the only motivation in booking a DJ is cheapest price. When you, as the consumer put price first and foremost into the decision making process, you are bound to run into problems. When I pick up the phone and instantly hear, ” What’s Your Price??? ” I know where the motivation is for that customer. It isn’t about quality. The sad thing is that quality becomes important only after a disaster is in progress. At that moment, the couple would gladly pay 10 times the amount to get their wedding back, but it is too late. So money saved, but disaster remembered for a lifetime of embarrassment and bitter disappointment!
Let me ask this very simple question? Would you look for the cheapest heart surgeon? Would you look for the cheapest trial lawyer, or the cheapest dentist. What are your expectations? Certainly you would expect a different dining experience on the dollar menu at McDonalds vs. Ruth Chris Steak House. There is always a direct correlation between cheap and quality or should I say lack of…….
Now ( If you have the stomach ) please take a moment to watch what happens when a bride and groom choose poorly with their wedding entertainment. Maybe, a wedding DJ may not be as important as a heart surgeon, but a BAD DJ can give you a heart attack!

A big thankyou to our friends at Classic DJ for sharing this. It had to be seen and hopefully will help other couples avoid the same fate.

Oh the shame! The photo displayed was from an ad run on Yahoo which obviously shows how to crop an image and get rid of unwanted background. In the photo, a bride and groom with a tacky, totally unprofessional ” DJ ” in the background. His shirt is un-tucked, tie a mess, and using a corded mic. ( Where’s the wireless??? ) YIKES! Thank the LORD he at least had on a tie!

The underlying problem here is that this is what people think of when they think of a DJ.My industry, that I have worked so hard for to establish professional legitimacy, has a black eye and a bad perception. If this is what people think of when they think ” DJ ” then all of the DJs around our nation need to take a long look at how to fix this problem.

Would a doctor, lawyer, or professional athlete be mocked in such a manner? NO! But tacky DJ? Well, we are just a prime target for this abuse. Much of it well earned and deserved because the majority of my industry still is part time, un-insured, and unprofessional. They don’t attend professional trade shows like Mobile Beat or attempt to improve their position with education and training. If we are ever to achieve full respect and autonomy as an industry, we need to legitimise ourselves by membership in organizations like the American Disc Jockey Association, and operate under professional full time business practices. As an industry, we have so much work to do. Time to start!

The mark of a professional is the first impression. You can tell instantly when someone takes pride in what they do, and someone who is just trying to make an extra buck. In the mobile entertainment industry ( DJs for short ), there are unfortunately many unqualified choices. So many in fact, that the novice DJ outnumbers the professional 3-1.

Many people find out after it is too late. When the names of the bridal party are all mis-pronounced, or the dance floor is empty, or the DJ says inappropriate things over the microphone causing embarrassment to you and your guests. And most of this can be avoided with one simple technique. Ask to see photos of the entertainer.

Usually, when a DJ has a neat, professional set-up and astetically correct presentation, he takes pride in his/her work. If they take pride in their work, they often will be someone you would want to do business with.

Key things to look for…………..

* How is the entertainer dressed? This is a major indicator of a professional.

* Is the equipment thrown on a table top or is it neatly organized behind a presentation facade?

* Does the DJ use bold colors in his/her set-up that would be a distraction. Tacky is a word I would use here. If the DJ looks cheesy, they often are cheesy.

* Are wires hidden, or neatly taped down? This is a area that must be important to someone hiring a DJ. If wires are exposed and un taped, not only are they unsightly, but a hazard. Accidents can and do happen when wires are not taped down. Can you say ” lawyer?”

Use your first impression instincts. More times than not, your first hunch is the correct one. Always look for someone who is neat because that is a clear indicator of a professional.
